Earthquake aftermath, Jiji, Nantou
Jiji earthquake, a very strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, also known as the 921 earthquake, took place on September 21, 1999 in Chichi, Nantou.
According to the R.O.C. gevernment, the earthquake caused NT$300 billion (US$9.2 billion) worth of material damage, 2,416 deaths, 11,443 severely wounded, completely destroyed 44,338 houses and severely damaged 41,336 houses.
